Sam Kier

Term Expires:
September 2021

Sam Kier has lived in Bastrop since 2006. He recently retired after 40 years working for IBM and Ricoh as a senior functional finance and accounting executive who managed complex global organizations and situations. Since 2014, he has been a Board member of the BCWCID#2, which manages water, wastewater and roads primarily within Tahitian Village. Sam has been a Board member and Treasurer of the BEDC since 2017.

Sam’s last role at Ricoh was as the Chief Accounting Officer and Assistant Controller for a $.8 billion IBM/Ricoh Joint Venture which was later sold, ultimately divested by IBM, and integrated into Ricoh. He was accountable to create and manage a worldwide accounting function and processes for 36 countries, publishing financials, ensuring accounting policies and practices are in accordance with GAAP and overseeing relationships with external auditors, Ricoh Corp, and accounting outsourcing supplier. Sam remained with this company from its inception in 2007 until its divestiture and world-wide integration in 2016. Previously, Sam was a Senior Manager in IBM Finance where he spent much of his time managing large organizations or integrating acquired companies into IBM’s infrastructure. Sam was involved in all aspects of the M&A process and then created a repeatable integration process that ensured newly acquired companies could grow within IBM yet maintain the proper controls and processes required by a company the size of IBM.

Sam brings his record of leading global cross-functional project teams in change management and process improvement along with his vast acquired business skills to both the BEDC and the BCWCID#2.
