The Bastrop Economic Development Corp. and Visit Bastrop, a destination marketing nonprofit dedicated to promoting tourism in the city, have hired new executive directors.

The economic development group hired Mike Kamerlander to lead the organization and its mission to advance the investment, development, growth and relocation of companies to the area. Kamerlander’s first day on the job will be Sept. 17.

The Bastrop City Council on Tuesday night issued an emergency 90-day moratorium on new development as officials examine whether the city’s development codes are effective enough in preventing adverse effects on drainage. The council also approved an emergency ordinance to evaluate the potential impact of development on stormwater flow throughout the city.

Seton Family of Hospitals has turned dirt on the 32-acre site near the intersection at Texas 71 and Texas 304 in Bastrop, where it’s building a future neighborhood hospital.

On July 20, Seton’s contractors began installing utility improvements, the first step toward the hospital’s construction. On Tuesday, the Bastrop City Council approved an agreement that would cause Seton to deposit $896,317 into an escrow account to ensure that those utility improvement projects will be completed.
