Seton’s ‘neighborhood hospital’ breaks ground in Bastrop

Bastrop officials and Seton Healthcare executives gathered under a white tent in an open field Tuesday morning, standing on the grounds of Bastrop’s future neighborhood hospital.

It was the groundbreaking of the future $30 million medical campus that will be designed to expand on its 35 acres alongside Bastrop County’s continued population boom.

“One thing that’s exciting about this proposal is it’s expandable, it’s scalable — it will grow as we grow,” Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape said.

In its first stage, the 40,000-square-foot facility will be what hospital executives call a “neighborhood hospital” and will include an emergency room, imaging services, at least eight inpatient beds, 12 treatment rooms and medical offices spaces that will offer patients primary and specialty care services.

Located near the Texas 71 and Texas 304 intersection, the hospital is part of Seton’s increasing focus on communities east of Austin. Executives with Seton said Tuesday that the neighborhood hospital will serve Bastrop, Bastrop County, Manor and Elgin. Seton Healthcare, which is operated by Ascension, a Catholic-based health care organization, also operates the Seton Smithville Regional Hospital.
