6/29/2018 (Bastrop County, TX) – Building a great community starts at the grassroots….the investment of citizen time, talent, energy and imagination. And building on that reality, according to Bastrop Mayor Connie Schroeder, is what Bastrop’s First Annual Volunteer Fair the evening of July 17 is all about.

The event will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center, 1408 Chestnut St. and is hosted by the City of Bastrop. Attendees will be able to “shop” the City’s 13 all-volunteer Boards and Commissions and the more than 20 Bastrop area community nonprofits that collectively shape a strong Bastrop. Representatives of each participating group will be on hand for one-on-one conversations about the work they do, the agenda for the near future and how the attendee’s talent, time and interests might be best engaged. Representatives of the City’s Boards and Commissions also will also provide timely information on how the newly revised application and appointments process works. Further information about the Fair will be available online at www.cityofbastrop.org, just click on the web banner on the home page!

Mayor Schroeder observes, “Bastrop has a strong history of volunteerism, and we all benefit from the results. We are a growing and thriving town. Whether you are a newcomer to the area, are the next generation coming of age or are a current resident with a desire to get involved – the Fair is the place to explore new possibilities. I have so often been told ‘I’d love to get involved, but I just don’t know how. The Fair is the answer!”

Volunteer engagement is fundamental to sustaining a strong community and its quality of life, according to the Mayor. “I strongly believe the community is best served when the most citizens participate and engage. Participation includes everything from mentoring a young child learning to read to serving as an officer on a board. Serving our fellow citizens heightens our awareness of each other, untapped possibilities and unmet needs. Working together, we can improve the quality of life for everyone...and every one of us is a stakeholder/participant in making it happen.”

“Please save the date and make a point to attend. See you at the Fair!” The Mission of the City of Bastrop is to continuously strive to provide efficient and proactive services that enhance our quality of life and achieve our vision.
