Bastrop’s director of economic development tenders resignation

Shawn Kirkpatrick, who has led economic development and job recruitment in Bastrop for three years, has tendered his resignation as executive director of the Bastrop Economic Development Corp.

“After deep contemplation with my family, I am resigning my position as executive director of the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation effective Friday, April 20,” Kirkpatrick told the Advertiser. “After three years of highly successful public service in Bastrop, the needs of my family have driven this decision.”

Kirkpatrick tendered his resignation to the corporation’s board on April 6.

“It has been a privilege to serve the community and work with so many outstanding members of the EDC board of directors, City Council and staff,” he said in his resignation letter. “The EDC staff are true professionals with servant hearts devoted to developing the local economy. Our accomplishments during my tenure have improved the community as a place to live and work and will have a lasting impact.”

During his time as head of the corporation, Elliot Electric and AEI technologies, a medical equipment manufacturer, located at the Bastrop Business and Industrial Park. Granite & Stone, an importer, wholesaler and fabricator of granite and stone materials, is working through the development process to build a $9 million, 50,000-square-foot facility at the business park. Seton Family of Hospitals is also building a neighborhood hospital in Bastrop, with its groundbreaking scheduled May 1.

“We thank Shawn for his three years of service,” said Cam Chavez, chairman of the corporation’s board. “Shawn provided a huge amount of expertise and assets in preparing us for the next level. One of his strengths was to guide the board in setting policies and procedures to prepare us for the future.”
