A treat for Mother’s Day at Cherry Blossoms Spa

Besides giving Mom a loving hug this Mother’s Day, why not also treat her to a stress-relieving facial or a soothing deep tissue massage? Cindy Cordova and her team offer an array of body relaxing therapies at Bastrop’s Cherry Blossoms Spa. Cordova also goes the extra mile in reaching out a warmhearted hand to her clients, a philosophy she’s adhered to for the decade she’s been in business in Bastrop.

“It’s a good opportunity to allow mothers to relax because they do everything for us,” Cordova said. In fact, mother-daughter visits are quite popular at Cherry Blossoms Spa. “It’s a great opportunity for mothers and daughters to spend time together,” Cordova added. For Cordova, her clients are special – she has a near spiritual relationship with them. “Sometimes, people just need a safe place to get away to. Some people come for skin care, some for health and some because they are hurting. Here, they can just kind of let go. They put themselves in my hands and allow me to take care of them. I consider that a great honor,” Cordova said.

Men are also making their way to the comfortable one-story building at 1011 Chestnut Street (on the corner of Chestnut and Hill). “Men are some of our best customers. Once they get a facial, they love it. We get everybody from doctors to construction workers,” Cordova said, adding that massages are also popular with men.

Multiple Services
Besides facials and massages, Cherry Blossoms Spa offers full-body waxing, rejuvenating skin peels, lash and brow tinting, and body wraps. Massage types include Swedish, therapeutic, pregnancy, and hot stone. Aromatherapy, feet and eye treatments, light therapy and BioMat sessions are also available. Cordova, who won a recent Best of Bastrop County Esthetician award, employs multiple massage therapists and estheticians – all are state licensed – and carries a wide array of skin care products including Le Mieux, Rhonda Allison, Young Living Essential Oils, Moor Spa, and Suntegrity brands. Purchases can be made onsite and online.

A Gift Leads to a Business
A Valentine’s Day gift steered Cordova to the spa business. “In 2006, my husband (Fred Cordova) was serving in Iraq. For Valentine’s Day, he arranged for me to go to a spa for a facial and massage. Immediately, I knew I’d found my calling. I especially loved the aspect of making people feel better about themselves and extending kindness and care through a facial treatment,” Cordova said. Next, she attained her esthetician’s license at the Paul Mitchell Academy and then went to work for Jackson Ruiz Salon & Spa in Austin. “After they closed their spa, I decided to follow my dream of having my own spa and opened up Cherry Blossoms Spa in 2010, down in The Crossing,” Cordova said.

Entrepreneur Competition Win
As the business began to grow, Cordova realized she needed more space. “I started out by providing only esthetics services. But when we added massage services to our spa menu, we needed to find a larger location. In conjunction with winning the Bastrop Entrepreneur Business Plan Competition in 2014, Cordova said she had been advised to have five to six treatment rooms for her expanding business. Cordova won the competition after submitting an impressive business expansion plan. She was awarded a prize package worth more than $15,000 to help her achieve her goals, which included moving to her much larger current location. “The inspiration for entering the competition was to secure the expansion for our staff and clients, offering more availability to both,” Cordova told the Bastrop Advertiser at the time. “One of the best outcomes was to get the stamp of approval from the judges. That really gave us the confidence that we are on the right path.”

Cordova has a natural inclination to go the extra mile with taking care of her customers. “I love being able to serve our local Bastrop residents and getting to know them as friends. But I also love serving people from out of town and showing them that they can find quality spa services in a small town like Bastrop,” Cordova said. Cherry Blossoms Spa hours are: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m-6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; closed on Sunday.
