The executive director of the Bastrop Economic Development Corp. recently received the professional designation of Certified Economic Developer after passing a two-day qualifying examination.
The International Economic Development Council, the largest organization serving economic developers, conferred the industry certification on Shawn Kirkpatrick Dec. 4.
“It’s a privilege working with local businesses to retain and expand our employment base while also working diligently to attract and welcome desirable new companies,” Kirkpatrick said. “This professional accomplishment demonstrates my personal commitment to creating new jobs and growth opportunities in our community through the Bastrop EDC.”
There are over 1,110 certified economic developers worldwide, and the designation is considered the industry gold standard, according to the council. The certification exam establishes a baseline of core knowledge for economic development professionals.
Kirkpatrick has served as executive director of the Bastrop Economic Development Corp. since April 2015.
